11-Jul-2004 by Ralf Zimmermann
Please read the file install.txt <install.html> for
information on how to install the software.
Go to the homepage of Eng-Ger at
http://www.RalfZimmermann.de/eng_ger/. Here you will find up-to-date
information about new versions of the application and/or the database.
If you want to contact me, please see Technical Support below.
If you want to register the application, you can do this in two
ways:
- online-Registration
-
Go to the homepage of Eng-Ger at
http://www.RalfZimmermann.de/eng_ger/register.html. There you will
find all options for online registration.
- bank account
-
You can transfer the money to my German bank account:

Konto-Nummer 1010 299 72
For users outside of Germany, this might be a costy thing to do. I
would recommend the online-Registration mentioned above.
Here is a short overview of the features, that are planned for
future versions:
- If a search term was not found, the application will store this
into a user database. The user can easily take this database (after
HotSyncing it to the desktop computer) and mail it to me. I will use
this information to improve the main database.
- The user will be able to enter his own vocabulary on the Palm OS
handheld. This vocabulary will also be stored in the user database.
- There will be an application that runs as a command line tool
(without user iterface) on your desktop computer. With this tool, you
will be able to generate your own database from your own vocabulary.
This will enable you to use your own vocabulary with Eng-Ger on your
Palm OS handheld.
If you would like to see other features in the application, please
feel free to contact me <mailto:Ralf@Zimmermann.com> and suggest
your ideas.
- Is there no way to translate from German to English?
-
Yes, there is a way. Select 'Search' in the upper right of the
screen and you will get to the search screen of the application. On
this screen, you can enter English or German words. The application
will show you any translation that contains this word, no matter if
the word was english or german. However, on the display you will
always find the english expression on the left and the german
translation on the right.
- How is the matching entry connected to the string that I entered?
-
The application looks for words that have the entered string as
their beginning. Words that contain the string within themselves will
not be considered matching. This means that if you are looking for
'rust', you will not find 'trust'.
- I want to enter my own vocabulary
-
At the moment, you can't do that with Eng-Ger. If you have
vocabulary that you think is missing, please send me an email and i
will have a look at it.
- Are there any plans to add german articles to the dictionary?
-
The database started without german articles about five years ago.
I am in the process of adding the articles step by step. But i can't
say how long this will take to be finished.
This is a short description of the differences between the
versions that were released.
- 1.6 (11-Jul-2004)
-
- Enhanced the display of the database entries with colored lines
for better readability
- Added font selector for results display.
- Added small fonts for handhelds with double density. This makes
it possible to display more results on one page.
- The database has more words and fewer errors.
- 1.5 (21-Oct-2003)
-
- Support for the TungstenT3 added. The application uses the
320x480 display in portrait and landscape mode.
- Minor bug fixes.
- The database has more words and fewer errors.
- 1.4.1 (08-Jul-2001)
-
- Bug fix: In Version 1.4, users got an error message when browsing
words starting with 'z'.
- 1.4 (02-Jul-2001)
-
- The application is now checking for expansion cards like on the
Palm m50x. This means that you can now have the application and/or the
database on expansion cards, like a
MultiMediaCard.
- Minor bug fixes.
- The database has more words and fewer errors.
- 1.3 (24-Jun-2001)
-
- Added a dialog to show the build date of the database.
- Minor bug fixes.
- The database has more words and fewer errors.
- 1.2 (20-May-2001)
-
- The database has more words and fewer errors.
- Added the dialog 'HotSync UserName', which exactly displays the
HotSync UserName of the Palm OS handheld. This is usefull, if during
registration, there is uncertainty about double spaces or unusual
characters (which affect the registration key).
- 1.1 (24-Feb-2001)
-
- The Search has been speeded up by the factor of ten. This is due
to a lot of optimization in the code that i added after the release
1.0 was perfectly stable.
- Added Cut/Copy/Paste support. For example, now you can copy the
results and paste it into your notepad or mail application.
- Improved and enhanced the database.
- 1.0 (04-Feb-2001)
-
This is the first version of Eng-Ger that was released for Palm OS
handhelds.
- 0.5 (14-Sep-1998)
-
This is the last version that I released for the Atari ST computer
so far.
Go to the Launcher Application on your handheld. In the menu, you
will find an entry for deleting. Select and delete the following
entries:
